the great pre- seeding

if your not a grafter ignore this...........if your a grafter pay close attention.
pereskiopsis grows like wildfire, youll have to start a BUNCH of seeds.
pick a species , get the seeds, start them up. grow grow grow. we started a bunch of different seeds.
we like seeds on rockwool, all cactus like rockwool. anyway, pick up a few thousand seeds and start throwing down the rockwool sheets.......... as you can see we sow seeds on the rockwool in between pereskiopsis. peyotepink says " expect more in the new age ". get a pressure sprayer, that way you can go right on down the line watering the pereskiopsis and the seed beds.
watering a tray or 2 dozen isn't too bad, but, this is the "pereskiopsis forestry service" ,
"no greenhouse too big" "spanning the globe"" fight global warming, plant a pereskiopsis"
you get the idea, if all ya want is a stupid stick with an astrophytum then go to the dime store and spend the 2.99 ...........you'll thank me............
true foresters, e-mail me for roto-tiller links.....................

peyotepink "operation pereskiopsis overgrow"

if ya wanna mow them ya gotta grow them! heres the basics........
get one and cut 6 inches off and stick it in dirt or rockwooll , water lightly.
amazing huh. its that simple, dont expect to see a flower , if you do see one send me a pic.
a good way to really get pereskiopsis foresting fast is the bucket method, 1 gallon buckets with good dirt, punch a hole in the bottom, start packing the cuttings in, ive never seen a crowded pereskiopsis........... buckets make nice gifts for friends, and sets ya up for bonsai pereskiopsis later on.............."bucket up people" true pereskiopsis foresters measure sq yardage!

peyotepink/ mow that pereskiopsis forest down!

first well show ya some grow pics and basic cultivation, then ,were gonna mow that forest down!
sharpen your grafting tools !

grafting pereskiopsis the peyotepink intro......

grafting pereskiopsis.................
before we begin," what can be grafted"?
actually about any cactus will work , all succulents forget it , its a different thing, but cactus no problems..............if somebody comes up with a good one let me know.

i suppose the more practical graft would be a rare small cactus.
i graft alot of common things though, for instance myrtillo and pereskiopsis?, pry not worth it mrytillo grows fast , ariocarpus pereskiopsis grafts are a good idea , aztekium pereskiopsis is a good choice too. other favorites might be trichocerous pereskiopsis grafts.

peyotepink has seen photos of some small cucumbers( trichocerous pereskiopsis.)

anyway look around , lots of people graft pereskiopsis .
whatever you graft, if it takes it will grow like wild..............

peyotepink pereskiopsis........spanning the globe?

people ask " where in the hell can i get this amazing plant"?
look around on the net is the obvious answer, can i endorse anyone?
not at this moment, but that could change..............personally i got 4 twigs off some nice lady at an auction site..........thats plenty, i suppose if your real desperate for a twig i might send a rooted on on rockwool.......impress me .........i sometimes answer my mail.

once ya get some its likely to be cuttings, no problem ,decent dirt ,water ,fert will be fine , bright light no problem ,medium light best, you"ll see growth in 2 weeks..........or it will die, some do, but not many............................
best size for cuttings is 6 inches, but any size will work experiment
, they can be grown and cloned on rockwool with ease...............
so get your peres ,get some dirt, rockwool ,and watering can, and lets get foresting!

show some patience. ill put up some links on peres , and some advanced microscopy pics, also some "grafting explained" pics.......... "pereskiopsis spanning the globe"

why grow pereskiopsis?

peres is a really fast growing cactus, actually, its just plain fast growing . its one of the fastest growing things i've seen in nature.
a single 6 inch peres can become a 6 sq. meter forest in one yr.

growing peres is noble for the pure spirit of it all , think jade plant on steroids.
growing as a bonsai allows for some really fast and cool looking plants.

since they don't have seeds cultivating them is pry a good way to keep them from extinction.

peres has one very useful purpose though, and thats for grafting.
almost any cactus can be grafted to a peres and it will experience dramatic growth.
really dramatic, i cant express dramatic, rare cacti that take yrs to become the size of peas
become silver dollar size in 6 months.............rare cacti might not be so rare if they all had a peres.

personally , i just like growing these things anything that grows that fast has to be of some value.
i suspect its a very ancient plant full of secrets.........................

ive researched the web, its an obscure plant.......google it .

now, lets grow some!.........pereskiopsis.............spanning the globe.

genral pereskiopsis safety primer .........

this post is not suitable for anyone under 21. go away. you would be bored.

ok , before we begin serious study of the amazing plant pereskiopsis, a few safety notes, pereskiopsis is a fast growing vine cactus, maybe one of the fastest growing cactus ,
there are no seeds, there are no flowers, the have spines and leaves.
they are a cultigen, its a clone or die game................
you can read all about them on wikipedia............

boring crap aside, the spines create a safety issue, there appears to be several forms of spines, none pleasant, all semi risky to be around.

dogs , cats, kids under 12, toddlers, premies, newborns ,the mentally unstable or anyone else unsound or frail should not have pereskiopsis.

also don't eat pereskiopsis, its stupid its spiny , it will likely make you sick, or worse yet , surgical spine removal, so don't eat them . theres no chance ever eating peres will turn out well.

having said that, its a great ornamental/ bonsai -fast growing easy care plant , just avoid touching and eating and full body contact.

some observations , cats learn quick and seem to stay away from them, but i cant say that with all cats, the neighborhood parade of cats seem to stay away from our shrub line of peres.
dogs aren't quite as quick , but they do catch on, usually by contact. be warned outside cultivator. smaller pets who knows? show caution.

kids? under12 think twice. totally unsuitable for toddlers. probably not good for an old folks home...............people use some sense.........its a cactus.

now, if you will see the pic above the disclaimer safety bullshit, you'll notice all the tools.
and the safety glasses , above everything else the glasses, vines whip around.
the tools, your choice your golf bag. i shopped around for a bunch of little tools and under 50$ this is what i came up with, essentially a selection of pliers and cutters and blades.

ok tool disclaimer, read their shit / danger / told ya so/ sue them/................
ditto for supre glue, use some sense ,amazing stuff, read their disclaimer.........

and, tweezers, ok be a cheap ass and get crappy tweezers. i don't wanna hear it.
an honest tweezer is like a 10$ thing . get a good tweezer and be thankful machinists make these things. ah, no tweezers at all , you are a total fool and one of the people that should'nt have pereskiopsis , leave the room , along with the "no glasses crowd"

as for the cutters, your choice.................anyway get the tools, and a box to put them in.
make sure its all washable..................
